Lesson Overview
The main purpose of this lesson is for students to be able to make an effective narrative PowerPoint presentation based on a field trip and research from the internet and the library. In this case, the field trip will be to the San Diego Wild Animal park, and an additional resource will include a video conference session with The San Diego Zoo. For students who can't participate in the field trip, their presentation will be on a topic with facts and supporting details based on research from several sources. Of these sources, one must be the internet.

Student Learning Objectives

Once students are comfortable using PowerPoint, the students will then make a PowerPoint presentation based on a classroom fieldtrip or on a given topic with facts and supporting details if no classroom fieldtrips will be made. The students will use the internet and other available resources (library books, pamphlets, or videos) to research about a topic or the place they will be visiting for their field trip.Introductory Activities1. Have students study any guides, pamphlets, or view any videos related to your classroom fieldtrip.3. Have class field trip. Field trip would be best if taken between Monday and Wednesday. This will allow students to begin working on their PowerPoint presentations with the field trip still fresh on their minds.4. After the class field trip, provide students with a Power Point Guide for them to use a written first draft of their presentation.5. Students create their PowerPoint presentations using the digital pictures taken from the field trip to enhance their presentation. Teacher may choose to create a folder with the best pictures taken.
- Without the Field Trip1. Have students visit teacher selected websites from which they will fill out a graphic organizer to begin their working on their PowerPoint Presentation. Recommended website would be Enchanted Learning. This website allows students to have a centralized location with a wide variety of topics to choose from. 2. If students have very good internet browsing skills, you might consider allowing them to search for their preferred topic on a children's search engine such as Yahooligans.3. Students will be provided with a PowerPoint Guide for them to use a written first draft of their presentation.4. Students will create their PowerPoint presentations.
