Lesson Overview

TWELVE-WEEK BLOCK

WEEK 1 Students are introduced to Careercruising.com, which assesses and identifies career matches.

Pre-test – consist of 5 questions pertaining to qualification needed to attain future career.

Questionnaire of careers and/or job family members posses and write a job description.

WEEK 2-8 Students complete a Computerized Portfolio consisting of resume, application, cover letter, etc…(See Portfolio Handbook for directions and samples)

WEEK 9-12 Student research and present a PowerPoint presentation of career or jobs they are interested in pursuing after graduation.

Assessment
All student present their presentation at least two different times. The first presentation is presented and graded by a committee of their class mates and teacher. Once the committee determines their is no need for improvment the STUDENT is ready to present for the final time.

The final presentation is presented and graded by an outside committee. This committee consists of one teacher and community members and/or parents.

Each presentation is graded using a Rubric designed to evaluate all levels of the presentation.

All seniors who graduate from Aurora High School must pass the Portfolio Class and other state requirements.
Additional Comments
Career exploring helps the students evaluate a job/career they are interested in pursuing upon graduation.

The final Portfolio prepares the student with job seeking skills need to obtain employment. (e.g. application, resume, etc.)

Presenting this project to an outside committee introduces the student to speaking to a panel of strangers.
