Activities

  1. Teacher will stop on one site with a lot of text that could be used in a research paper about her life. Teacher will then discuss the importance of paraphrasing published material when doing reports and the issue of plagerism. (This is also a good time to start talking about the works cited page and showing students where to locate the pertinent info. on the website.) Teacher will model acceptable and appropriate paraphrasing while students watch. Teacher will demonstrate two paragraphs before soliciting participation with students. Teacher will then select a paragraph for students to paraphrase on their own.
  2. Day 2: Class begins with students in groups sharing papers. Groups will select "the best" example to read for the group. They will type it up on Word and save to a disk to be displayed for the class for a group evaluation. Then teacher will open up another website about Anne Frank and paraphrase with class one more time. At this point teacher will introduce the concept of parenthetical citations within their reports(just to make them aware of the idea).
  3. Activity 3: This culminating activity will actually take place about 3 days later to allow time for students to receive more direction about the requirements of the research paper and to do some initial research of their chosen topics. Students will submit disks with a paragraph of information pasted to a Word document above their paraphrasing attempt. Teacher will randomly select samples to display before the class for evaluation and possible editing.
